Ogun Community Alleges Imposition of Oba-Elect

 

Families of Alapara. Odoyansunsen Ruling House of Oru-Ijebu, a community in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, have alleged the imposition of a controversial planned installation, imposition of Prince Rasaki Adebanjo as the new Oloru of Oru community today calling on the government to await the decision of the Court of Appeal on the dispute coming up on the 27^th of November 2013, noting that the imposition could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the area if not reversed.

 Rather than impose a candidate, the people said government should recognise and install Prince Nosirun Adesegun, who has been unanimously agreed upon as candidate for the stool at three different meetings by the kingmakers.

The Alapara family, in a letter signed by Sola Ojutalayo and Co; solicitors to Prince Nosiru Adesegun   and addressed to the State Governor, copied to Ogun State Attorney – General and Commissioner for  Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs and the Court of Appeal, A.A Isiolaotan, Esq of Sola Ojutalayo, said any attempt to install Prince Rasaki Adebanjo as the new Oloru of Oru amounts to attempt to contempt of court as the case  with suit No CA/1/318/2012 is still pending at the Court of Appeal.

“Please be further informed that where an application for injunction is pending in Court (as it is in this case), no step should be taken by any party to the suit or their privies in furtherance of the res of the case (which is the stool of Oloru of Oru herein).

Prince Nasirudeen Adesegun Adesi, who led others to express their displeasure at the government’s approval of the installation appealed to the Attorney-General of the state to advise the government against presenting the staff of office to the monarch-elect. Prince Adesi said the government had defied the order given by Court of Appeal in Ibadan judicial division, asking all parties to maintain the status quo.

He said, “We don’t want crisis in Oru-Ijebu. The matter is already in court so it is expected that the state government will stay action on the issue of the new Oloru. The best thing for the government to do is to stop until the court determines the cases. Why has the commissioner for local government inOgun state order the chairman of the local government council to go ahead with the installation evn when the families has termed it as a taboo for him to be installed  at Awa, a neighbourhood being governed by the Limeri of Awa Oba Habib Awobajo.

“Tension is already high in the community because of the plan to present staff of office to Rasaki Adebanjo. This should be avoided because a section of the town is angry. The government and the Oba Habib should steer clear of this tussle, so as our town would not be turned upside down.”

According to Moses Adegbesan, head of Yanhusen Ruling House, ‘why should the government, the Commissioner, the Chairman of the local government council be in a hurry to install Rasaki who, we rejected, because he came from the female side of the ruling house to a more accepted person. The case is already coming up on the 27^th of  November, 2013 in Ibadan”
