Traditional weddings are especially exciting because the bride chooses colours that matches her personality, the makeup artist can experiment with those colours on the eyes, the lips – making the process playful and the bride oh so pretty.
We’re soo lucky the talented makeup artist styled the shoot herself! So she was able to share her inspiration for the different looks with us. The bridal outfits are from different regions of our beautiful country Nigeria – Hausa from the North of Nigeria – both North East and North West, Niger Delta/South South, TivIdoma (ethnic group of Nigerian pop superstar TuFace Idibia) – both found in the “middle belt”, trans-national Muslimah, Yoruba from South West, – including Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ogun state, the Igbo bride in the south east, including Enugu, Imo and Anambra state,
We’ll let Dolapo walk you through her looks!
Enjoy!
Hausa Bride: Lilac gele and pink lace. To me, the Hausa culture is vast; because the wedding ceremonies take between 4-5 days which I think I full of bling!!! The bride is always blinged out; from her outfit to shoes to accessories and even sometimes the henna is blinged! For this look, pretty in purple and pink was the way to go.

Niger Delta Bride: The Niger-Delta culture is one of my favourites majorly because it encompasses different ethnic groups, each full of colour and those coral beads!!!! For this look, I chose bold gold tones on the eyes and cherry and pink lips to tone down the redness in the total outfit (from the beads and wrapper). nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_0 nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_35 nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_7
Tiv: I chose the Tiv culture for their dance steps, the Tiv dancers and steps are amazing; they have such bold, fluid-like rhythms. For this look I decided to fuse silver and black with a pop of purple to accentuate the eyes and paired with a light nude pink lip.nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_10nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_30nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_9nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_8
Trans-National – Nigerian Muslimah Bride: Even though the Muslim marriage rite is not so much a traditional affair but to me its equally a glamorous one that’s also Nigerian. I chose 2 different looks for this; one pretty in pink and the other bashing blue. For the pink Muslimah I opted for a baby doll look with silver and pink eyes paired with pink lips and for the blue Muslimah; silver and and blue on the eyes paired with nude lips for less drama!

Idoma Bride: In the middle belt of Nigeria, the Idoma culture for me, is rich with warm hearted people and of course spicy food. For the look, I chose a subtle look, I didn’t want the regular red lipstick; I opted for a cherry toned lip liner with a hint of shimmer in the pout with hint of red eyeshadow on the eye.nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_37nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_14
Yoruba Bride: Ha…yes, the Yoruba culture is one of the most popular in the wedding industry. Most other cultures have even borrowed the outfits (buba and aso-oke). For this look I chose a soft eye look using peach, purple and dark brown which I paired with a bold red lipstick.nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_1nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_23Igbo Bride: Wine ichafu (Igbo word for headwrap), red beads, with gold lace blouse. I paired this look with gold and bronzey tones on the eyes with hot red lipstick. The second Igbo look – gold aso-oke with lace draped as mono-strap blouse; for this look I basically updated by adding a pop of color using blue liner on the lower lid.nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_2nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_24nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_31nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_34
Last but not least – the Owambe bride! {EditorOwambe roughly means ‘it’s happening there’, Igbo equivalent is Ebe Ano, indicates you’re “where it’s at”  (American slang) in the midst of what’s hot and happening, bustling activity like a party}.
Because she’s where all cultures merge, she reminds us of why we came for the event; to celebrate and dance!!! For this look I paired an ombre lip; done with wine colored lip pencil gradient with start white gloss paired with pink gold and wine eyeshadow, I also lined the eyes with bright blue liner for a fun and fresh effect!! She’s the fun one! ;) nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_4 nigerian_bride_bellanaija_weddings_bellezza_faces_makeup_abuja_25
