Read the transcript of Flavour’s speech at the assembly ground on his life changing story;
From playing in the choir to joining music bands I was relentless to pursue music. On this faithful day, I was in SS1 when I left school for 3days without the permission of my parents or school authorities and travelled all the way from Enugu to Warri with a band to perform at a concert. By the time I came back, my mum had reported me to the principal who had sent people to look for me and bundle me to the assembly ground. I was stretched out and thoroughly flogged.
But I thank God for that day because I learnt a very important lesson that changed my life forever and which is part of what brings me here today. I learnt to do anything in life you must be patient. Patience is key to success when combined with dedication, focus, passion and hard work. I learnt the bitter way that you must obey your parents first and make sure you complete your education before you chase your personal dreams whether music, fashion or acting.
Also, I’m using this opportunity to announce the annual Mr. Flavour Nabania excellence in music star prize of $1,000. This prize will be given to the best graduating student of music every year. Music knowledge is key to be a successful musician like me. Remember to be yourself, stay original and don’t ever forget the son or daughter of whom you are and where you’re coming from. By God’s grace I see many Flavours amongst you here today and pray God will guide your path and bless you too with success.
I believe this will help improve the standard of education provided by the school through access to the vast information and resources on the Internet. The phone lines I believe will help the teachers and principal communicate better towards the advancement of the school. As I only try to do my own quota, may God Almighty reward you and past teachers of this school for your immeasurable contributions towards developing leaders and the future of Enugu and Nigeria.”

Confusion in Osun state as students wear religious clothes to school

The Baptist High School, Iwo, Osun State was in a state of chaos and confusion yesterday Tuesday Feb 4th as some students of the school came into the school premises wearing their religious apparels such as Hijab, choir robes, white garments, fetish veils and Orunmila attires, ditching the approved uniform by the state government. And later during their assembly time, the students all sang songs that were associated with their religious beliefs.

According to reports, the students were registering their displeasure at the state government for the introduction of Unified School Uniforms for all schools irrespective of religious beliefs. The Christians who are owners of the school were protesting the new policy on education set by the state government that allows Muslim students to wear Hijab to Christian's mission public schools.

The new policy of school reclassification by the state government, which was introduced last year has been causing a lot of problems in the state, because it introduced the merger of most of schools, and because some of the schools are faith-based, there's chaos. The Christian schools do not want Muslim students wearing Hijab to school but the state govt has made it legal, thus the continued protest...

Former Nigerian Olympian jailed for life in South Africa for murder

Former Nigerian Olympic athlete, Ambrose Monye (pictured above), has been sentenced to life in prison in South Africa for the murder of 26 year old Channelle Henning (pictured right).

Monye, who participated in the Seoul Olympic game in 1988, is accused of killing Henning as she drove out after dropping her young son at the Morning Star Montessori Preschool in Faere Glen, East Pretoria South Africa on the 8th of November 2011. He and another accomplice, Andre Gouws, who was also sentenced to life in prison, were contracted to kill the woman by her estranged husband.

After denying their involvement in the shooting death for almost two years, the men finally confessed to being involved in the gruesome murder.

According to Andre Gouws testimony in court this morning, Channelle and her husband, Nick have been on a custody battle for their young son for a while. Nick then decided the best way to have full custody of his son was to permanently get rid of his wife. He then contacted Andre Gouws to help carry out the murder with a reward of a million rand if successfully done. Andre then contacted Monye to help facilitate the killing with a promise to pay him 50,000rand. Continue...

 The husband, Nick
Ambrose then contracted two men, Gerhardus (Doepie) du Please and Willem (Tattoo or Pike) Pieterse who carried out the murder. The two men are already serving 18-year jail terms, following their guilty pleas to the murder charge.

Described by the investigative team as the kingpin of Pretoria's underworld, Ambrose has a history of being involved in murder cases. In 2011, he was arrested and later released in South Africa for allegedly beating a man to death. Ambrose runs a security firm in South Africa.

13 yr old boy rapes his 8yr old sister after watching porn because he 'wanted to try it out'

A 13-year-old schoolboy raped his eight-year-old sister after watching pornography on an X-Box computer console, a court has heard.

The teenager told police he used the games console to view explicit material before he 'decided to try it out'. The boy said he targeted his younger sister because she was small and 'couldn't remember stuff'.

At Blackburn Magistrates Court yesterday the boy admitted rape, indecent assault and inciting his sister to perform a sexual act on him.

The youngster, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has been bailed to live with relatives away from his sister while a pre-sentence report is being prepared. Continue...

Fiona Elvines, from the Rape Crisis Charity, said that children accessing pornography was a ‘growing concern’.
She said: 'This is going to completely destabilise this little girl’s life. It will take her a very long time to try and work through. It will have put her life on a different track and I do not want that to happen to anybody else.'

Ms Elvines told the Lancashire Telegraph 'For a long time, people have been sitting on the fence and saying we do not have the evidence to say porn is harmful, but now we are starting to have some evidence around young people’s exposure.
'How much evidence do you need? It shows that the government’s measures are extremely important and that we need to start acting. When children see porn, they have no context for what it is used for. There is pressure on children to be sexualised, particularly on younger boys, to start having sex.
'It is coming from peers and porn.'

The government has said that by the end of 2014 all devices with access to the internet will be blocked from accessing pornography, with users forced to opt in.

The X-Box customer support website says explicit content and internet access can be restricted using parental controls.

Microsoft, the company which makes the console, said: 'We have the greatest sympathy for all involved in this case. At Microsoft we have some of the most robust systems that allow parents to control what their children play and watch online. For example, access to the internet is switched off automatically for all child accounts on X-box, and we urge parents to review the settings on their children’s consoles.'

In November last year a 12-year-old boy admitted three charges of rape against his sister, aged under 10, after he watched pornography at school and went home to copy what he had seen.

The abuse took place over the course of a year and was only discovered after the girl confided in a family member.

The boy was given a three-year youth rehabilitation order and will continue to live at the family home.

He was ordered to register as a sex offender for two-and-a-half years.

Fake lawyer apprehended in Lagos

30 year old Daniel Ikhidenor Ikhuoria (pictured above) from Ekpoma Edo State, who has been practicing law illegally since 2011 has been apprehended by the police attached to the Igbosere High Court Lagos Island, PM News reports

The suspected fake lawyer was arrested when he came in as a lawyer for a court hearing. His moves were suspected by an orderly attached to the Appeal Court, DCR Office, who got him arrested.

Upon his arrest, he was interrogated and is alleged to have confessed to the fact that he had never trained as a lawyer but didn't know it was an offense to pose as a lawyer and represent clients in court without training or authority. Continue...

According to PM News, following his arrest, the state branch chairman of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Alex Morka, was contacted about the development and he instructed the police orderly to take the suspect to the nearest police station.
In his alleged confessional statement to the police, the suspect allegedly said: “I have been practicing as a lawyer since 2011 and I have represented clients at the magistrate, high court and Federal high courts without any problem. But I have never attended law school or any institution to read law in my life but I was called to the bar through a source at a high court in 2011. I bought the gown and wig in the open market and wore it and started practicing as a lawyer. I did not know that it is an offence to practice as a lawyer without authority. I promise to change if I am set free.”
