Revealed-Why Dbanj's Koko Concert didn't hold this year

You know Dbanj organized his Koko concert last year which received a lot of back lash because of the distance people had to trek inorder to get to the venue. This year,the concert isn't going to hold.According to Dbanj, he cancelled it in honour of late Nelson Mandela (‘Hey Kokolets,the yearly Koko Concert has been cancelled because of the Madiba Legacy Concert happening tomorrow at the Ocean View event center!!‘,.)but Nigerian Tribune reports otherwise
Contrary to report on tweeter that Koko Concert for this year was cancelled by D’Banj in honour of the late Nelson Mandela, an artiste manager has described the story as a lie.

Rather, it is because the concert was not able to get sponsorship support as planned by the Kokomaster.


In a phone call by R to him on Friday morning, the manager of one of the hottest musician in the country right now said D’Banj had admitted to my artiste that he was having problem getting a sponsor and would not hold the concert if his attempts at getting one fails. He spent a lot of money in bringing Idris Elba and others to the country last year and does not want to do so alone this year. So, when I read on tweeter that he said he was cancelling the concert to honour Mandela, I just laughed at the PR-driven lie’, he said.
D’Banj himself made the cancellation announcement on his Twitter account, explaining that the yearly concert was cancelled because the ‘Madiba Legacy Concert‘, which held on December 18, 2013 at The Oceanview Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.

“D’banj’s reason for cancelling the event does sound very cheeky as we wonder how a one-day tribute concert (which he clearly did not put together) would stop him from holding his own show this December, wrote a disgruntled fan, Ay.
He has, however, promised to make it up to his fans by hosting three ‘Koko Parties’ this yuletide season.

Beat FM OAP Fade Ogunro and her prolific music video director brother Sesan Ogunro lost their dad in the early hours of this morning Monday Dec. 23rd. Mr Sesan Ogunro Snr, who was an advertising guru, was returning from his church Christmas Carol with members of his family, including his children and grand children when they were attacked by armed robbers last night around 10pm in front of their church at the back of Marwa Garden in Alausa Ikeja.

Mr Ogunro was shot point blank by the robbers. He was rushed to the hospital where he died around 12.45am early this morning. He was in his sixties. Too sad. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

(Heartbreaking)Woman who waited for her solider husband to return from war receives his remains in tears after 63years(Pictured

This is a very touching story of true love at it's purest. A woman named Clara Gantt who had been waiting for her husband, Army Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Gantt since he left for the Korean War in 1950,finally found out he was dead  after 63 years of waiting.

Before he went to war,  he told his young wife to remarry if he didn’t return.Clara Gantt told him she wouldn’t. She’d wait for him. And she did, for 63 years.

On Friday, his remains, in a flag draped coffin, were delivered back to Los Angeles with full military escort.Clara, now 94, stood from her wheelchair, tears streaming. The pain of her loss was clearly etched in her face.



“I told him I missed him so much,And I expect him to come home and he didn’t,”

Sgt. Gantt had served in World War II and remained in the Army after that conflict, going to Korean as a field medic.Clara last heard from him just before Christmas, 1950. He was taken prisoner shortly after that final letter.Over the years, Clara was active in an organization made up of the families of MIA veterans — there are 8,000 still from the Korean War — and she often traveled to Washington, D.C. to hear updates from government officials.

She never even dated anyone else. She wasn’t going to “be caught” with another man while she was waiting for her husband, Clara said. She also covered her bedroom wall with military memorabilia and her husband’s medals.

Clara learned in October that her husband’s remains had been found and verified. Officials believe he died in 1951.And on Friday, Joseph and Clara were reunited.
“I am very, very proud of him. He was a wonderful husband, an understanding man,” she told reporters at LAX. “I always did love my husband, we was two of one kind, we loved each other. And that made our marriage complete.”

Gov. Ahmed Presents 124 Billion Naira 2014 Budget

The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfattah Ahmed has presented a budget proposal of over 124 billion Naira (about $775m) to the State House of Assembly for the 2014 fiscal year, with the education sector gulping the highest fund of over 19 billion Naira.
Presenting the budget christened “the budget of expansion for inclusive prosperity”, the governor noted that the budget proposal has an increase of 27% as against 96 billion Naira of last year.
While the recurrent expenditure will be 48 billion Naira, the capital expenditure is 58 billion.
The governor noted that the expected federal allocation will be 44 billion Naira while the internally generated revenue is 16 billion Naira with the excess crude account raking in 3 billion Naira.
The education sector is expected to gulp the highest amount of 19 billion Naira with the construction of schools, completion of the international vocational centre in Ajasse Ipo among other projects.
Purchasing of additional aircrafts for the aviation college, installation of closed circuit television and construction of roads will also be accorded priority.
The Speaker, Rasak Atunwa, while responding, promised to give accelerated passage to the budget proposal and defer the second reading of the bill till January 7, 2014.

Breaking News: ASUU Suspends Strike After 5 Months

Channels TV reports that the union has decided to suspend the strike after a marathon meeting held in Minna, Niger on Monday.


ASUU Chairman, University of Lagos Chapter Dr. Karo Ogbinaka stated “We expect the students to resume and expect their members to go back to class immediately after the congress meeting and we expect the government to keep to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)”
He also revealed that the union and the government would hold meetings in 2014 to look at gray areas that may arise and come to a common ground.

Fake South African sign language interpreter helped burn men to death in 2003

Details have emerged about the violent crime charges that Thamsanqa Jantjie, the fake sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela's funeral sevice faced a decade ago.

The bogus sign language interpreter at last week’s Nelson Mandela memorial service was among a group of people who accosted two men found with a stolen television and burned them to death by setting fire to tires placed around their necks, one of the interpreter’s cousins and three of his friends told The Associated Press Monday.
But Thamsanqa Jantjie never went to trial for the 2003 killings when other suspects did in 2006 because authorities determined he was not mentally fit to stand trial, said the four. They insisted on speaking anonymously because of the sensitivity of the fake signing fiasco, which has deeply embarrassed South Africa’s government and prompted a high-level investigation into how it happened.

Their account of the killings matched a description of the crime and the outcome for Jantjie that he himself described in an interview published on Sunday by the Sunday Times newspaper of Johannesburg.
“It was a community thing, what you call mob justice, and I was also there,” Jantjie told the newspaper.
Jantjie was not at his house Monday, and the cousin told AP Jantjie had been picked up by someone in a car Sunday and had not returned. His cellphone rang through to an automatic message saying Jantjie was not reachable.

Instead of standing trial, Jantjie was institutionalized for a period of longer than a year, the four said, and then returned to live in his poor township neighborhood on the outskirts of Soweto. At some point after that, they said, he started getting jobs doing sign language interpretation at events for the governing African National Congress Party.

Jantjie told the AP last week he has schizophrenia and hallucinated, seeing angels while gesturing incoherently just 3 feet away from President Barack Obama and other world leaders during the Tuesday ceremony at a Soweto stadium. Signing experts said his arm and hand movements were mere gibberish.

In the interview last Thursday, Jantjie said he had been violent in the past “a lot” but declined to provide more details and blamed his violence on his schizophrenia, for which he said he was institutionalized for 19 months in a period that included time during 2006. The cousin and the three friends said the “necklacing” killing of the suspected thieves occurred within a few hundred meters (yards) from Jantjie’s tidy concrete home near ramshackle dwellings.

The four spoke to the AP on Monday in Jantjie’s neighborhood, and one of the friends described himself as Jantjie’s best friend.

Necklacing was a method of killing that was fairly common during the struggle against apartheid by blacks on blacks suspected of aiding the white government or belonging to opposing factions. The method was also used in tribal disputes in the 1980s and 1990s. While people who encounter suspect thieves in South Africa have been known to beat or kill them to mete out punishment, necklacing them has been rare.

An investigation is under way by South African officials to determine who hired Jantjie as the onstage interpreter at the Mandela memorial service and if and how he received security clearance. The officials have not said how long their investigation will take place, and reaching them for updates was difficult Monday, a public holiday in South Africa.

Four government departments involved in organizing the historic memorial service have distanced themselves from the hiring of Jantjie, telling the AP they had no contact with him. A fifth government agency, the Department of Public Works, declined to comment and referred all inquiries about Jantjie to the office of South Africa’s top government spokeswoman, who has only said a “comprehensive report” will eventually be released.

Jantjie told the AP he was hired for the event by an interpretation company that has used him on a freelance basis for years, but government officials have said the owners of the company have disappeared. The address that Jantjie provided for the company was occupied by a different company that is not involved in interpreting for the deaf.

The AP was unable to verify the existence of the school where Jantjie said he studied signing for a year. An online search for the school, which Jantjie said was called Komani and located in Eastern Cape Province, turned up nothing. Advocates for the deaf said they have never heard of the school and said there are no known sign language institutes in the province.

The Star newspaper of Johannesburg reported Friday that Jantjie said he studied sign language interpretation in Britain at the “University of Tecturers.” A British charity that awards qualifications for deaf and deaf-blind communications techniques said it had never heard of the university.

South African Minister Ebrahim Patel launches Mandela Fashion Award for Designers, Scholarships & other Living Memorials

With the passing of a great icon, there are always ways to remember them. For Nelson Mandela, it was his love for mankind, his works of humanitarianism and the struggle against apartheid that freed the South African people. Now, we can add three more accolades to the South African giant as the South African Minister of Economic Development, Ebrahim Patel has announced the launch of 3 living memorials to the legacy of Nelson Mandela.

Addressing a group of workers in the Pep Clothing Factory memorial service for Mandela in Cape Town, he announced a Mandela Scholarship to 10 university students, a Madiba School Bursary for 100 primary or high school children with disabilities and special needs and a Mandela Fashion Award for designers who promote local jobs and fashion innovation.

The memorials are to be sponsored by the South African Clothing and Textiles Workers Union (SACTWU).

Speaking at the event, Ebrahim said “These awards speak to three key things we remember Madiba for: his passion for education, his love for children and of course, and his colourful shirts. They ensure that the memory of a great man is carried forward in acts that transform the lives of people. The result was that the previous offer by the National Party government for wide scale tariff reduction was replaced with a more balanced trade agreement that has helped to save tens of thousands of clothing and textile jobs. It is the measure of the man that he did this while he was in Norway in December 1993, ready to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Africa’s biggest youth leadership platform, The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) kicked off a week of celebration yesterday with a formal launch of events by the Nigerian Federal Government. The launch was led by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo at an event at the State House, Abuja.

In addition to kicking off the week of celebrations, yesterday’s event also celebrated the TFAA Best 100 – some of the best young leaders that have been nominees of the awards since its inception in 2006.

Toke Makinwa confirms split from longtime boyfriend, Maje Ayida

Toke Makinwa has confirmed the end of her on-again/off-again relationship with fitness expert, Maje Ayida. In an interview with Sunday Punch, Toke confirmed she was no longer engaged to Maje

“I am not under any pressure to get married. It’s the society that puts pressure on women not minding that divorce rates are high. I was once in a long term relationship with Maje Ayida and it has come to an end. I think it’s unfair for me to speak about our relationship because he is not here to defend himself. He is an amazing guy but it was not meant to be. It’s strange being single again but I am taking it one step after the other. One of the mistakes I made in my last relationship is that we dated for a long time. They were amazing years but they were also 12 long years. When you are faithful to someone, know what you can tolerate. My Mr Right has to be God-fearing, who would not do certain things because he is God-fearing. He has to understand what I do and must not be selfish in any way”.

"I enjoy going out and there are some appearances that I would be paid for if my brand aligns with what they are pushing for. I have people who come to me saying they want me to appear at their weddings or birthdays and ask how much I would bill them. It’s not every event that I get paid to attend. It’s called an appearance fee." Toke said

Patience Jonathan changes name to Mama Peace

The first Lady of Nigeria said yesterday at an event in Abuja that she no longer wants to be called Patience but Mama Peace...

Speaking during the inauguration of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Maternal and Child Health known as MAMA Project, Patience Jonathan explained why she now wants to be addressed as Mama Peace. The First Lady said:

"My name is no more Patience but now Mama Peace because I believe that without peace, there will be no more women, no more children and no more health sector. Without peace, the international community will be afraid to come and invest in our country. Peace is from the heart and not from the tongue or lips; not what you say but what is in you. We pray for genuine peace because peace is the key to our arriving at our desired destination as a nation.

“We are approaching the new year which is a year of peace, progress and so many good things to come. 2014 is going to be a year of no militancy and no Boko Haram because God will shower peace and make us take a U-turn from disaster.”

Amen. Una hear...? She's now to be addressed as First Lady Mama Peace...:-)

"We steal because you never stoned us for it" - Gov Rotimi Amaechi

Speaking at a tribute event for Nelson Mandela in Lagos on Friday, Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi said the reason political office holders steal is because citizens let them.

"Even the musicians, you're singing about us, the leaders? If you see a thief and you allow him to be stealing, what do you do? You have stoned nobody that's why we are stealing. Who have you stoned? We came out and you started dancing, the oil subsidy, we told you they stole N2.3trillion, what did you do? Instead you're protesting. The oil subsidy that is not reaching the poor, few individuals are going away with the money, you have done nothing, you are mourning Madiba, 95 years.

It's good to steal if you can't fight back. You have heard about  $50billion, nobody is talking, we are debating whether can he talk to the president like that. In some countries people will be on the street, until they return that money. $50billion is N8trillion, it will change Nigeria. Me I want to steal only $1billion, let them bring it" He said

Radar Online blasts Mariah Carey for performing in Nigeria, calls us 'the world's center of bank fraud & human trafficking'

Unbelievable. Can't believe some of the things these people write. US gossip site Radar Online yesterday scolded Mariah Carey in an article posted on their site, saying she shouldn't have accepted to do a gig in a country known for 'terror, death and fraud'. What nonsense, they can talk when the US is the number one crime capital of the world. Read the Radar Online article below...

Mariah Carey proudly posted a pic of herself in a slinky yellow dress and wrote, “Backstage in Nigeria” on Saturday. But maybe the songbird should have done some homework before agreeing to the gig?

Her show was at Access Bank’s Christmas Party which was also a farewell bash for the bank’s managing director. And while Access Bank is a reputable financial institution, should Carey have known a few basics about the African nation before taking the paycheck?

Ironically — given that she was performing for bankers — it seems Carey wasn’t aware Nigeria is well-known as the center of the world’s email financial crimes! Nigeria is even part of the name — as in “Nigerian 411 Scams.”

Nigeria is also, according to the United Nations, the hub of human trafficking as “a source, destination and transit country.

AND, just for good measure, there are mass killings going on in two Nigerian states right now, and according to Human Rights Watch, the violence is being ignored by federal authorities.

“Systemic corruption in the Nigeria Police Force” is the problem, a HRW spokesperson told CNN.

Carey isn’t the first performer who has taken a paycheck for appearing in countries known for terror, death and fraud.
