Samsung on Tuesday announced the Galaxy S5, its new flagship Android smartphone with an Apple iPhone 5S-like biometric sensor button. The phone is dust and water-resistant, sports a faster camera and offers fitness-related features.
The Galaxy S5, which was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, will be available in 150 countries, including India, on April 11. However, the company did not announce the price of the new smartphone.

It sports a slightly larger 5.1-inch Super AMOLED (1080 X 1920p) display which looks similar to that of the Galaxy S4.

Powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core processor and 2GB RAM, the Galaxy S5 will come in 16GB and 32GB internal storage variants which will be expandable up to 64GB through microSD card.

The Galaxy S5 sports a 16MP rear camera and a 2.1MP front-facing camera. The rear camera is capable of capturing 4K video at 30 frames per second. Samsung claimed the Galaxy S5 offers the world's fastest auto-focus speed up to 0.3 seconds.

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the latest version of Google's mobile operating system. It is IP67 certified dust and water-resistant. The back panel of the phone sports a dimpled soft-touch cover, similar to the Nexus 7(2012) tablet.

After months of refusing to sign the anti-gay bill which Uganda's lawmakers passed in December 2013, (Read that here) President Yoweri Museveni, today succumbed to pressure from within his country and signed the anti-gay bill into law.

He signed the bill at his official residence at Entebbe, near the capital Kampala, in front of govt officials, journalists and a team of Ugandan scientists who found no genetic basis for homosexuality, one of the reasons why he finally consented to signing the bill.

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton separate after 20 years together

I'm truly surprised by this. I mean, there have been reports and photos of the singer messing around with other women but I thought Paula was cool with it. The couple, who have been together for over 20 years and married for nine, announced their separation today to People magazine
'We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time,' they told People in a joint statement.
The 38 year old actress and Robin, 36, began dating when she was 18 and he was 16. They have a 3 year old son, Julian. Just recently Robin said of their relationship, "We're pretty sure we've loved each other for a few lives.". Anyone surprised by this separation? Kinda feel bad for them...

British Council holds interactive session on graduate employment

The British Council will on Wednesday, 26 February, hold an interactive session with stakeholders in the Education sector to discuss graduate employability and inclusive development with a view to advancing effective policy to address unemployment challenges. Continue...

The Forum, which will attract participants from the academia, employers of labour, young people and policy makers, will deliberate on research findings from Nigeria’s current education policies and statistics, according to a statement by the British Council Communication Manager, Mr. Desmond Omovie.
It said existing research shows that despite global attention to higher education and employability, there is a surprisingly weak evidence base. “Little is known about the causes of poor graduate outcomes and what universities can do to improve their offering,” the statement said.
It announced that the British Council has commissioned a three-year study exploring the role universities can play in promoting graduate employability in five countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa and the UK. The research is led by the Institute of Education, University of London, in partnership with Kenyatta University, Kenya; University of the Free State, South Africa; University of Education, Winneba, Ghana; and University of Ibadan and University of Lagos, Nigeria.
The research will find out, among others,
·      Why there is graduate unemployment?
Indications are that there are a range of factors, but causal links are not clearly established.
·      What exactly are the levels of knowledge/skills/etc. of graduates?
There are few rigorous gauges of student learning, meaning that assessments of graduate attributes and work readiness are largely impressionistic.
·     How effective are university-based interventions?
Where there are policies and initiatives in place to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, or initiatives targeted at enhancing employability such as entrepreneurship courses, impact on students is largely unknown.

The research will assess the overall situation in the selected countries and identify recent initiatives that have sought to address the challenges. The project will also assess the key role of university partnerships – with a particular focus on how UK universities might collaborate with universities in Sub-Saharan Africa to improve university education.

Deola Sagoe drops ex-husband's name, to re-brand simply as Deola

Haute couture fashion designer, Deola Sagoe, has dropped her ex-husband's name, at least from her business, and will be re-branding simply as Deola for the brand's 25th year in the fashion industry. In a recent interview with Okay Africa, the mother of 3 who divorced her Ghanaian husband Kofi Sagoe many years back said she's working on rebranding her fashion line and one of her measures is to change her brand name, Deola Sagoe to Deola, so as to make it more personal.
"Its been 25years that I have been designing and I'm actually going to be re-branding as Deola to make the label somewhat more personal. Deola is about bringing more of the essence of me into my clothing. Deola is very high-end, very bespoke. Deola is more available to a larger number of people who love the brand, who wants to wear it and it is more accessible."
